Gourami Thick Lip | Colisa labiosa

28 July 2022 - Kategori Blog

The  Thick Lipped Gourami (Colisa labiosa) was introduced to central European aquariums in 1904 from southern Burma. But Pinter (19960) and Vier^e (1975) did not agree to regard the labiosa as a separate species. fa sc lata. Pinter (I960) emphatically stated that the species was erroneously referred to by us as *Colisa labiosa* and of course it was just a variety, possibly a subspecies Colisa fasciata which with further notice will be designated simply as C. fasciata. However, Jayaram (1981) mentions Colisa labiosus (Day) as a separate species with limited distribution in Burma. It can be said that £ labiosa has never been observed in any habitat.

HABITAT OF THICK LIP GOURAMI, COLISA LABIOSA OR THICK LIPPED GOURAMI

This fish is native to Burma. These fish are widely transported worldwide for the aquarium fish industry and are additionally thick-lipped generally peaceful, easy to keep fish suitable for tropical community aquariums. Like other Trichogaster species, it tends to be a bit shy and will appreciate plant life hiding below if it feels threatened.  They eat a variety of foods including flakes, bloodworms, and brine shrimp. These fish should not be kept with fish like spines or thread-like ventral fins as they can bite into the stump. Colissa labiosa is one of the fish species that live in public waters, this fish is classified as a freshwater fish. mostly live in calm waters and sometimes live in low concentrations of water among dense vegetation at an optimal temperature of 26-28C; pH 6.5-7.0 and hardness 7-10 dh

REPRODUCTION OF THICK LIP GOURAMI, COLISA LABIOSA OR THICK LIPPED GOURAMI

Fish reproduce externally. In this case, the male and female fish will approach each other and then the female will lay eggs. Furthermore, the male will immediately release his sperm, then the sperm and eggs are mixed in the water or often called Oviparus. (Roberts, TR, 1992).

Reproduction Like most labyrinth fish, the thick-lipped gourami (Colisa labiosa) builds a bubble nest in which the eggs are placed. However, the female parent in this fish lays her eggs in the foam nest without being dropped. This is because the eggs float so that the male parent just waits for him.  (D meaning SL and Iwan D. 2006)

PHYSIOLOGY OF THICK LIP GOURAMI, COLISA LABIOSA OR THICK LIPPED GOURAMI

In colisa labiosa fish the respiratory system of the fish is included in the category of true bony fish and must have gill covers or is called an operculum. The gill respiratory system includes an inspiratory phase (inhaling) and an expiratory phase (exhaling) the water that comes out through the gill slits will touch the gill sheets. This gill sheet contains a lot of blood capillaries, so that this part of the gas exchange occurs, namely the blood binds oxygen and releases carbon dioxide.  (Aryulina, Diah. 2009)

Colisa labiosa is a fish that has changed its eating habits. That this fish in the first lunar phase of its life is a carnivorous fish that is detritus eaters. In the juvenile phase, their eating habits change to omnivores (eating detritus and leaves) and entering the adult phase of colisa labiosa fish to become herbivorous fish (eating green leaves) with this change in eating habits making their growth slow. Where colisa labiosa is more likely to be omnivorous where for the oral cavity it has small teeth and a medium-sized intestine 2-3 times its body length.  (Aslamsyah, 2008)
