Peppered Corydoras Catfish (Corydoras paleatus)
Peppered Corydoras Catfish originate from tributaries of the larger river systems in South America, and are peaceful underground scavengers. The Peppered Corydoras Catfish has black and dark green spots, with a white underside. The Peppered Corydoras Catfish requires a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding places that provide some relief from the light. A fine sand or gravel substrate is needed because the barbells are easily damaged.
They love to be in numbers, so small groups of six or more are ideal for this catfish. Breeding Peppered Corydoras Catfish is done by keeping several of these cats together and leaving them in pairs. After laying eggs, the breeding pair must be separated from the eggs, or the eggs transferred to another system.
The seeds become waterborne in about 5 days, at which time, they should be fed baby brine shrimp and crushed flake food. Peppered Corydoras Catfish are omnivores and will require a balanced diet including freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, sinking catfish pellets, flake food, frozen food, and live food. Feed quality flake and pellet food as well as frozen brine and live worms.
