Blue Electric Ramirezi Ballon Longtail | Papilochromis ramirezi

Although it comes from far away, the fish, scientifically named  Ram cichlid  , has become one of the species favored by ornamental fish lovers in Indonesia because it is easy to adapt to new environments.

Ramirwezi  has a very diverse variant. Starting from  super neon blue gold, german blue, electric blue ballon, gold ballon, gold face electric blue, dark knight, golden, longfin golden, power blue, gold angel veil, bolivian, electric blue,  to  slayer .

In Indonesia, there are five types of ramirezi that are most in demand. Namely,  electric blue, german, slayer, bolivian,  and  balloon . Hobbyist and CEO of Darkwater Aquatic Bekasi Muhammad Zulkarnain Andrie is one of those who likes to maintain ramirezi.

“Currently we  keep Bolivian  altispinosa  and  ramirezi  blue electric short body ,” he said. As the name suggests,  the electric blue ramirezi  is dominated by blue with a white combination. The fins are broad and serrated combined with a fan-shaped tail.

While the type of  bolivian  red is more dominant. The red color is getting darker at the ends of the tail and fins. Yes, the tail, fins, and color become the strength of the fish.

These three aspects are usually the size of the audience. “Generally, at first, fans like the color, then the shape, whether it’s the body or long fins,” said Andrie.

For maniac collectors, they will usually hunt for fish with rare colors and luster. “Currently the  black knight variant  (a lot of collectors are hunting for it, Red),” he added. Because, there is not much supply or cultivation for these color variants.

Another element that makes ramirezi fish much preferred, said Andrie, is its adaptability when compared to other types of  cichlids  . That character also makes him suitable to be a  tankmate  of other ornamental fish in the aquarium.

“Ramirezi is used as a complement in  community tanks  such as  manfish ,” he explained. Most importantly, said Andrie, the amount of feed and fish adjusted. Especially with fellow ramirezi. This is because fights are more common with each other.

Ramirezi’s adaptability also makes it easier for collectors to maintain. For water, for example, these fish do not need special handling. In accordance with their habitat, the fish are able to survive in fresh water with a pH level of 4-7 conditions and a normal temperature between 24-38 degrees Celsius.

With these characteristics, the fresh water used is quite ordinary groundwater. Even if there is a mixture, just add salt water and antibacterial drugs. “Ramirezi fish is stubborn, Mas, adapts quickly,” he explained.

Andrie has special tips to make fish more adaptable. Namely, with a gradual water change method. So, not all the water is thrown away and replaced with new ones. However, only 30 to 50 percent.

“Let the water parameters be maintained. Even though ramirezi adapts quickly,  it ‘s better  if the water quality is good,” he said.

In the era of the pandemic, Andrie felt that people’s interest in raising fish had increased. This can be seen from the increase in the number of orders. He supplies the ramirezi needs of the cultivators who are starting to mushroom in Bekasi. Because it is easy to adapt, this ramirezi is indeed suitable for  newbies .
