Cherry Barb Behavior

Males sometimes fight each other to maintain their position in the hierarchy. But most of the time they will display a completely harmless form of intimidation. It should also be noted that the presence of several males will encourage the appearance of beautiful fish colors.

A special aquarium is preferred. This shy fish has no natural behavior in community aquariums. However they can live in aquariums with calm species such as gourami or colisa.

Cherry Barb Breeding

Like most barbus, breeding cherry barbs is relatively easy and sometimes occurs without human intervention. However, so that the fry or fry can survive, make a special aquarium for breeding.

You should install a dark substrate, a protective grid at the bottom, and fill it with fine-leaved plants such as Taxiphyllum or Java Moss. Then reduce the light by giving lots of floating plants.

The temperature should be set around 25-27 °C and a pH of 6.5-7. Condition the pair before feeding them plenty of live food and then placing them in the breeding tank. They can lay about 300 eggs and the incubation period lasts for 24 hours. When the fry start swimming, lower the water level, then raise it back up gradually as it grows.The recommended foods for cherry barb fry are artemia and cyclops.

Cherry Barb Aquarium

Special aquarium preferably cherry barb. While decoration is not a sensitive point for these fish, it is recommended that you keep them in a well-planted aquarium, with a large hiding area and swimming area. Also choose a dark substrate and add some floating plants. For a more natural sensation, sprinkle the soil with some dry leaves.
